Diálogos y tensiones de la representación indígena en el espacio museal. Tres experiencias: Colombia, Panamá y Perú

Resumen

El presente Trabajo de Grado reúne tres experiencias museales en Latinoamérica (Colombia, Panamá y Perú). Cada documento es el resultado de los componentes de grado que exige la Maestría en Museología y Gestión del Patrimonio para optar al título de Magister.
La primera de estas experiencias es un ensayo conceptual “Diálogo entre colecciones: Representación indígena en la sala Ser Territorio del Museo Nacional de Colombia” donde me interesé por comprender cómo se representa lo indígena en la sala mencionada teniendo en cuenta las nuevas prácticas curatoriales que ponen en diálogo objetos tradicionalmente clasificados como indígenas (etnográficos y/o arqueológicos) junto a objetos pertenecientes a otras áreas del conocimiento, como el arte y la historia.
La segunda experiencia es el resultado de mi práctica académica “El arte de hacer mola y la escritura del universo Gunadule: Museo de la Mola, Panamá”. Además de describir las funciones que realicé en las áreas de curaduría y catalogación, en este informe, vuelvo sobre la pregunta por la representación y el valor del objeto indígena, reflexionando en torno a las tensiones que hay al clasificar como arte o artesanía la producción material indígena para lograr definir la colección del museo.
El tercer caso da cuenta de mi estancia en el museo de Sitio Túcume “Entre Museo de Sitio y Ecomuseo: Museo Túcume, Perú”. Esta experiencia tuvo como propósito dar a conocer y reflexionar acerca del funcionamiento, estructura y organización del museo, además de responder a mi interés por las nuevas prácticas curatoriales sobre la representación indígena.
Los tres componentes de grado mencionados, aunque no son un estudio comparado, tampoco son experiencias aisladas, por el contrario, en cada una de ellas, desarrollé una misma unidad conceptual y temática acerca de la representación indígena.
Los tres casos, reflexionan y ponen en evidencia los diferentes sistemas expositivos que cada museo utiliza para construir sus discursos sobre lo indígena y su cultura material, encontrando considerables diferencias. Algunas de estas tienen que ver con: el origen de su colección, el interés y la necesidad de creación de cada museo.
Poner a dialogar la información recogida en campo junto con la teoría para el desarrollo del presente documento, se nutre de las contribuciones metodológicos y epistemológicos que ofrece tanto la antropología (mi carrera de base) como los de la museología, reconociendo los aportes que desde la antropología se puede hacer al campo de los museos.
Desde esta doble mirada intento desnaturalizar e historizar las relaciones sociales y de poder que se han construido en los museos, desmontando el estatuto de verdad sobre el cual se ha configurado la institución museal respecta a la representación indígena y su práctica curatorial. Esta búsqueda me permitió situar los discursos de estos tres museos como productos políticos e históricamente cambiantes.

Abstract

This dissertation brings together three museal experiences in Latin America (Colombia, Panama and Peru). Each document is the result of the degree components required by the Master in Museology and Heritage Management to qualify for the title of Magister.
The first of these experiences is a conceptual essay, “Dialogue between collections: Indigenous representation in the Ser Territorio room of the National Museum of Colombia”, where I became interested in understanding how the indigenous is represented in the aforementioned room taking into account new curatorial practices that put in dialogue objects traditionally classified as indigenous (ethnographic and/or archaeological) with objects belonging to other areas of knowledge, such as art and history.
The second experience is the result of my academic practice “The art of mola making and the writing of the Gunadule universe: Mola Museum, Panama”. In addition to describing the functions I performed in the curatorship and cataloguing areas, in this report, I return to the question of the representation and value of the indigenous object, reflecting upon the tensions that exist when classifying as art or artisanal handicraft the indigenous material production to achieve the definition of the museum’s collection.
The third case gives an account of my residence at the Túcume Site Museum “Between Site Museum and Ecomuseum: Túcume Museum, Peru”. This experience was intended to raise awareness and reflect upon the functioning, structure and organization of the museum, in addition to responding to my interest in new curatorial practices on indigenous representation.
The three grade components mentioned, although not conforming a comparative study, are not isolated experiences, on the contrary, in each of them, I developed the same conceptual and thematic unity about indigenous representation.
The three cases reflect and highlight the different exhibition systems that each museum uses to build its discourses on the indigenous and its material culture, finding considerable differences. Some of these have to do with: the origin of its collection, the interest and the need for the creation of each museum.
Putting information collected in the field in dialogue with the theory, for the development of this document, is nourished by the methodological and epistemological contributions offered both by anthropology (my basic career) and those of museology, recognizing the contributions that anthropology can make to the field of museums.
From this double perspective, the aim is to denaturalize and historicize the social and power relations that have been built in museums, dismantling the statute of truth upon which the museum institution has been configured with, regarding indigenous representation and its curatorial practice. This search allowed me to situate the discourses of these three museums as political and historically changing products.
