Resumen :  Because of the importance of the small-scale fishery long the south coast of Sinaloa State, México, the specific composition of the catch landed at Playa Sur (Mazatlán),Barras de Piaxtla, and Teacapán were sampled during 1987 and 1988. Using the values of the relative importance of weight and monthly frequency of occurrence of each species, we defined three groups. Scomberomerus sierra, Mugil curema, and Bagre panamensis were species each representing more than 9% of the total catch, and were recorded in more than 12 of the months of the study. Another group of twelve species each representing leas than 9% of the total and also recorded in more than 12 months. A final group was formed by 46 species together repre¬senting a total weight of less than 5% and occur¬ring in less than 13 of the study months. A table with scientific and common names of the 61 species is included.
