With data from a survey conducted among the customers of the “la Carolina” Agroecological Fair, this work analyzes the socioeconomic determinants of agroecological foodstuffs consumption in Quito. The results of descriptive and multivariate analyses reveal the personal well (health) is the principal (only) motivations to consume agroecological foodstuffs. Although this finding is consistent with prior research conducted in European and North American countries, the results presented here also reflect that factors related to the social well (sustainability of agricultural production, conservation, the welfare of small-scale farmers, and food sovereignty and food security) have no effect on decisions concerning agroecological consumption. |
